Private Healthcare Services in China

There are few greater unmet needs in China than those existing in the healthcare services sector.  China’s public hospitals are overcrowded and the Chinese people – even those willing to pay a premium for access to quality care – have very limited choices when searching for medical providers.

Participation of private capital and foreign expertise will be indispensable as China upgrades its healthcare system.  Investors who manage to successfully navigate China’s complex legal and business environment to meet this urgent need will reap attractive financial rewards, while playing an important role in China’s social and economic development.

We believe the next 5-10 years will see impressive growth in private participation in China’s healthcare industry. We are especially optimistic about the opportunities in niche markets such as nursing homes, dental clinics, eye hospitals, dermatology clinics, obstetrics and gynecology hospitals, cosmetic surgery clinics and similar opportunities.

We also anticipate that future foreign investment in China’s healthcare services industry will not be limited to foreign insurance holders in first tier cities, but that it will increasingly be directed to opportunities to serve increasingly affluent local Chinese residents in China’s 2nd and 3rd tier cities and beyond.

Stenvall Skoeld works with healthcare services companies and private equity investors in China to identify private healthcare opportunities and screen and validate potential investment targets. We also help investors conduct due diligence and risk assessment on potential Chinese partners.
